Addressing a wide range of needs—from adding volume for precision contouring to softening lines to enhancing facial features—Restyalne SilkRefyne, Defyne, and Lyft represent even more choices for patients.

Wrinkles, hollows, and thinning lips are an inevitable result of aging, but they don’t happen randomly. These changes occur in the face in specific areas and for a specific reason, whether because the skin isn’t bouncing back like it used to or the body’s production of collagen has slowed and led to a reduction in volume. For patients who want to address these changes, or simply enhance their youthful features, Restylane® is a go-to at our Milwaukee-based ReFresh Aesthetic Center.

Each option in the Restylane® family of dermal fillers, made by Galderma Aesthetics®, is composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in your body. These aesthetic injectables, which are clear gels that are free of animal products and very well tolerated by patients, are sometimes called injectable fillers or facial fillers for their ability to “fill in” the spaces under the skin that lead to creases, grooves, and a sunken or deflated look. With new FDA indications for use and next-generation filler formulations, the Restylane® family also offers fillers to enhance facial features such as the lips, cheeks, chin, and jawline.

At ReFresh Aesthetic Center, our team of certified aesthetic nurse specialists and nurse practitioners is highly experienced and trained in injectable treatments. We apply that experience and knowledge to each Restylane® treatment so that you will still look like you—only better! Individual results may vary, and we will completely personalize your treatment experience with your specific aesthetic goals in mind.

Why Do We Get Wrinkles?

Think of the skin as a rubber band. When it’s new and properly moisturized it will stretch, but it always goes back to its original shape. As the rubber band ages, it loses its ability to bounce back to its original shape, leaving cracks and creases.

The same thing happens with your skin. When you’re young, you can manipulate the skin by smiling and laughing, and it will always return to its normal state. As we age, however, our skin loses collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, all of which influence this resiliency. It takes the reintroduction of these components to refresh the skin, give it its bounce back, and soften or “smooth out” lines or folds.

In addition to chronological aging, the collagen in our skin is also continually exposed to external stressors such as UV rays from sunlight, gravity, and air pollution. Wrinkles appear where volume is deficient, or the skin has been damaged.

What is the Restylane® Experience in Milwaukee, WI?

It’s always important to determine which dermal filler products, such as Restylane®, are right for you and your targeted areas of concern. This is where your initial consultation comes in. During this visit, our experienced certified aesthetic nurse specialists and nurse practitioners will review your medical history to make sure there’s nothing in your past preventing you from receiving this treatment. Once we’ve determined that you can safely use Restylane®, we’ll schedule your first appointment.

Patient comfort is always a priority. Our certified aesthetic nurse specialists and nurse practitioners apply numbing cream to treatment areas prior to all injections, and the fillers themselves are formulated with lidocaine to minimize discomfort during the injection process.

Restylane® treatments are administered in about an hour. Once your appointment is complete, we will go over post care instructions for best maintaining your rejuvenated look.

Who is a Good Candidate for Restylane® Fillers?

The ideal candidate is a healthy individual with realistic expectations from the treatment. While Restylane® may not make deeper lines or folds fully invisible, for example, it can go a long way toward minimizing their appearance. We’ll answer any questions you have, as well as review your medical history, during your initial consultation.

What Are the Options in the Restylane® Family?

There are various types of fillers in the Restylane® collection, each one formulated to treat specific conditions and areas of the face with its unique strengths. While each type of Restylane® is an effective standalone treatment, the fillers are often combined with other injectables to address various visible signs of aging. Your treatment options will be discussed during your consultation.

Restylane® Defyne

Lines and folds are inevitable as we age, but there are areas where we may be most aware of them, particularly in the lower face. Marionette lines are the lines that run from the corner of your mouth to your chin, and nasolabial folds run from the side of your nose to the corner of the mouth. These are commonly called smile lines. These locations represent some of the most actively used on our face. Because of this, they develop some of the most noticeable wrinkles, and deep creases form over time.

Along with reducing facial wrinkles, Restylane® Defyne gained FDA approval for correcting mild to moderate chin retrusion in February 2021. The filler’s robust consistency, yet flexibility with movement makes it ideal for non-surgical chin augmentation on patients who consider their lower jaw area to be weak or recessed. It also improves projection to create a more chiselled, proportional looking jawline.

Restylane® Defyne is formulated with XpresHAn Technology to target deepening expression lines. The unique cross-linking of the hyaluronic acid gel was developed to provide support to your facial expressions, resulting in natural-appearing results that still maintain your natural movement and contour.

Restylane® Refyne

Patients can get rid of static wrinkles with one of the more recent editions to the Restylane® family: Refyne. This filler smooths the skin by adding vital hyaluronic acid (HA) back into the areas where its loss over the decades has caused the skin to dry out and wrinkles and lines to form. Since HA has such an affinity for water, it rehydrates the tissue, improving elasticity and making wrinkles more difficult to see. Formulated with the unique XpresHAn Technology, Restylane® Refyne features cross-linked hyaluronic acid, which means the end results are natural looking and that a full range of natural facial expressions are supported by the treatment.

Restylane® Lyft

Restylane® Lyft is a facial rejuvenation procedure that restores volume and support, reduces wrinkles and folds, and gives you a younger appearance that is visible right away. Sometimes called a hyaluronic filler (HA), injectable filler, or facial filler, Restylane® Lyft is a clear gel that has the ability to restore volume to the midface or other areas that may benefit from structure, contouring or enhancement. Restylane® Lyft was one of the first HA dermal fillers approved by the FDA in the United States, following the approval of Restylane®. Results can be expected to last six months or longer. A second booster treatment will extend the results to as long as 18 to 24 months.

Restylane® Kysse

Restylane® Kysse is the newest addition to the Galderma dermal filler collection. It is the first lip filler designed with XpresHAn Technology, allowing flexible movement that results in lips that look and feel natural, even when making expressions. Our Aesthetic Nurse Injectors understand that each individual’s lip goals are different. Whether you are looking for lip enhancement or simply to restore the lost structure, support, and hydration to your lips, Restylane Kysse and our certified aesthetic nurse specialists/nurse practitioners can help you meet your lip goals.

Restylane Kysse is a lip filler that can add volume, enhance lip color, and smooth upper and lower lip lines for up to one year. Being formatted with XpresHAn Technology’s advanced cross-linking gel, we can deliver lip enhancement or restoration with precision. ReFresh was one of the first practices in Wisconsin to begin offering Restylane® Kysse, in May 2020.

The best way to learn more about how to achieve your lip goals is to set up a consultation with one of our certified aesthetic nurse specialists/nurse practitioners.

Restylane® Silk

When choosing a dermal filler to manage your visible signs of aging, it can be beneficial to choose a treatment that addresses multiple aesthetic concerns in one experience. Our Restylane® Silk treatments can subtly enhance the lips or simply restore lost volume and hydration to the lips and smooth lines around the mouth with limited injections that require minimal disruption to your normal activities.

Restylane® Silk is one of two Galderma Aesthetics® dermal fillers approved by the FDA for both lip enhancement and line reduction around the mouth. This clear gel formulation of hyaluronic acid creates support and contour to the lips and surrounding fine lines, leaving you with results that are natural in appearance and meet your individual aesthetic goals.

Although there are other dermal fillers on the aesthetic market that are formulated with hyaluronic acid, Restylane® Silk stands apart for its smaller, smoother particles, allowing it to easily integrate into the treated area, seamlessly smooth fine lines, and create subtle enhancement or restoration. These easy injections are well tolerated and offer flexible scheduling for busy patients.

Most patients experience a revitalized appearance, with 98 percent reporting improved lip definition or fullness after 14 days, and 76 percent still experiencing visible lip enhancement after six months.

What Is Recovery from Restylane® Like?

One of the advantages of dermal fillers such as Restylane® is that there is minimal social downtime necessary. Some bruising and swelling can be expected following your injections, but this should subside within three to 10 days. In the meantime, you can camouflage bruises with makeup. Within a few days, once the Restylane® has settled into the area or areas treated, you will begin to see and enjoy your refreshed appearance.
