What Is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a safe treatment applied directly to the skin for rapid exfoliation to even out complexion irregularities and provide a healthier-looking, glowing face. There are many different types of peels that use different active ingredients at varying strengths for customized results.
Who Can Benefit from Chemical Peels?
Peels are ideal for women and men who want to address any of a number of cosmetic imperfections, including irregularities in skin tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, hyperpigmentation and sun damage, acne scars and other superficial marks, acne and blemish breakouts, or rosacea symptoms.
How Do I Decide Which Chemical Peel Is Right for Me?
During your skin-care consultation, one of our licensed aestheticians will evaluate the condition of your skin and recommend a regimen customized to your specific cosmetic needs.
What Should I Expect During and After a Chemical Peel?
During treatment, you may feel a slight warming or stinging sensation on your skin, but this should last only for a few minutes. Your procedure will be completed in under an hour, and you will be given post-procedure instructions by your aesthetician.
After your session is over, your skin may appear pink and be a little sensitive to the touch for a while. You shouldn’t wear any makeup during this time, but should definitely apply sunscreen for protection against ultraviolet radiation.
Within a few days, you may find that your skin is beginning to peel. This is the exfoliation process in action, when the dead cells are shed and fresher, younger skin is revealed. If you don’t notice any shedding or flaking, that does not mean the chemical peel did not work. Each person’s skin reacts in its own way to the treatment, with some clients finding that their exfoliation happens on an entirely cellular level. The benefits are the same.
No matter the level of peeling—from significant to invisible—be sure to stay properly moisturized and protected from UV radiation.
