If you have spider veins, ReFresh Aesthetic Center™ offers treatments that can significantly reduce the appearance of these unsightly veins. Sclerotherapy is the “gold standard” spider vein treatment, and ReFresh uses the most modern sclerotherapy techniques available.
What Are Spider Veins?
Spider veins, also known medically as telangiectasias or venulectasias, are similar to varicose veins. While varicose veins are large and bulge above the surface of the skin, spider veins are smaller and do not bulge. They are small red, blue, or purple blood vessels that cluster and show through the skin, most commonly on the thighs, calves, and ankles.
Spider veins typically take on one of three patterns: a branch-like shape, a spider web shape, or a sunburst pattern. Women are more likely to develop spider veins than men, and the veins are primarily a cosmetic problem.
Heredity, pregnancy, gender, weight gain, trauma, and activities that require prolonged sitting or standing are some of the factors that contribute to the development of spider veins.
What is Sclerotherapy?
At ReFresh Aesthetic Center, we perform injection sclerotherapy, which involves the chemical elimination of spider veins. Using a fine needle, a solution is injected directly into the veins, causing the vessel lining to swell and collapse. This prevents blood from reentering the veins.
A typical session lasts from 15 to 60 minutes depending on the number of veins that need to be treated. You will need more than one treatment to achieve the results you want.
Sclerotherapy causes a slight burning sensation and/or cramping after the procedure, but patients report that the discomfort is mild. You will most likely experience some bruising after the vein procedure, and you will have to wear compression stockings overnight and for approximately three days. Please review all Sclerotherapy treatment instructions.
You can resume normal activities immediately, although vigorous activity is not recommended for three to five days. It can take several weeks for the veins to fade, so sessions are usually scheduled five to six weeks apart.
If you are troubled by unsightly spider veins, we can help you to feel better and look better so that you’ll even feel comfortable wearing shorts again.
