Smooth Cellulite with Advanced Injectable Treatments in Milwaukee, WI

Skin with a dimpled texture that tends to occur on the thighs, hips, and buttocks—often referred to as “cottage cheese skin” or “orange peel skin”— is best known as cellulite. Around 90 percent of all women and 10 percent of men have this problem, which is cosmetic in nature, but annoying all the same. Many people try to get rid of cellulite because they’re frustrated by its appearance. While there are treatment options that involve incisions or devices, injectable Qwo® at our Milwaukee-area practice is an effective way of addressing this concern and getting smoother skin without the need for an invasive procedure.

Why Do We Get Cellulite?

Many people believe that cellulite is a problem only for people who are overweight, who are out of shape, or who have sagging skin. While carrying extra fat does make cellulite appear more prominent, people of all shapes, sizes, and builds can develop the dimples, regardless of how healthy they are or how often they exercise.

While fat does play a part in cellulite, the puckering actually happens because of the interaction between the fat below the skin and the connective bands around it.

Each cellulite dimple is a depression caused by fibrous connective cords in the skin pulling the surface down into the deeper tissues, creating depressions and peaks where the skin dips and fat bulges out.

Though hormones, age, genetics, a poor diet, and a sedentary lifestyle aren’t direct causes of cellulite, they are some of the factors linked to the condition because of their impact on the skin’s thickness, elasticity, and other qualities.

Qwo-before-after

What is Qwo®?

Unlike topical creams and other products that only target the outer layer of skin—often with minimal effect—Qwo® actually addresses the underlying cause of the problem. Otherwise known as “collagenase clostridium histolyticum-aaes,” Qwo® is an FDA-approved prescription medicine for treating moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. It is the first injectable treatment available for this purpose.

Collagenases are enzymes that have the ability to destroy accumulations of collagen, which is a structural protein found throughout the skin. Qwo® contains bacterial collagenases, so when it is injected directly into the areas where fibrous bands are causing the cellulite, they degrade the tight cords and release the tension that causes cellulite. Treatments also stimulate the production of new, healthy collagen and are believed to promote redistribution of the fat cells, which makes the skin on the surface appear smoother and more even.

What is the Qwo® Experience in Milwaukee, WI?

As experienced providers in the area of body contouring, our Aesthetic Nurse Specialists and Nurse Practitioners will begin with a consultation to determine if your areas of concern are truly cellulite, as opposed to skin laxity. From there, they will discuss your best options to treat your areas of concern most effectively and help you determine whether Qwo® would be the right choice.

How is Qwo® Administered?

Qwo® is a fast, simple procedure. It is injected with a small needle into the fat on each of the pre-marked areas on the buttocks or other “off-label” areas determined by our Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialists and Nurse Practitioners. Because the treatment itself involves minimal discomfort, there is no need for topical anesthetic cream or injections to numb the areas of treatment.

Qwo® injections will be given in three session spaced 21 days apart. Unlike some other cellulite treatments, there is no downtime necessary, however, there are some expected side effects specific to the Qwo® treatment, such as bruising, that our practitioners will discuss with you. Recovery is straightforward, and patients often begin to see noticeable results with each treatment.

How Do I Know if My Cellulite Can Be Treated with Qwo®?

Our Aesthetic Nurse Specialists and Nurse Practitioners can assess your skin to find out whether Qwo® would be effective.

What Are the Most Common Side Effects of Qwo®?

With any injectable treatment, including Qwo®, there’s a risk of bruising, itching, tenderness, areas of firmness, warmth, redness, or discoloration in the target area. Bruising sometimes lasts for a week or two, but will resolve to ultimately reveal smoother skin.
